Djurgarden IF lost their Allsvenskan home match 1-2 to IF Elfsborg on Saturday. After taking the lead in the second half, the visitors turned the game around to take all three points from the Stockholm arena.
Rasmus Wikström put Elfsborg ahead 0-1 in the 44th minute. Djurgarden turned the game around after the break. In the 66th minute, Jacob Une Larsson headed in the 1-1 equaliser from a cross by Kristian Strømland Lien. But the joy was short-lived. Just ten minutes later, in the 76th, Simon Olsson struck to make it 1-2 for Elfsborg from an Alexander Jensen pass, sealing the win for the visitors.
Manager Jani Honkavaara made several substitutions in search of an equaliser, including bringing on Oskar Fallenius and Max Larsson, but the team failed to create more clear-cut chances. Djurgarden had 55 percent of possession but Elfsborg were more effective with 15 shots to nine. Only two of Djurgarden's efforts were on target.
The defeat means Djurgarden remain in third place in the Allsvenskan with 41 points from 22 games. The team is ten points behind league leaders Sirius. Kristian Strømland Lien, who provided the assist for the equaliser, remains the team's top scorer this season with 15 goals.
Djurgarden's recent form had been strong with four consecutive wins before this loss. In their latest matches, they beat Gais 2-0 and advanced in the cup with a clear win over Haninge. Now a break in league play awaits before the next major challenge.
The team's next match is an away derby against Hammarby FF on October 11th. It will be a tough test against a side currently sitting second in the table. All information on upcoming fixtures is on our fixtures page.
