Djurgarden lost their latest Allsvenskan match 1-2 to IF Elfsborg. Jacob Une Larsson equalised in the 66th minute, but a late goal from Simon Olsson gave the visitors victory at Tele2 Arena.
After an even start, Elfsborg took the lead just before half-time. Rasmus Wikström made it 0-1 in the 44th minute. Djurgarden, who had 55 percent of possession, struggled to create truly dangerous chances. Manager Jani Honkavaara made an early change at the break, bringing on Oskar Fallenius for Patric Åslund.
The equaliser came after an hour of play. Kristian Strømland Lien, the team's top scorer this season with 15 goals, delivered a cross that Jacob Une Larsson headed home. It was the defender's first goal of the season. The parity did not last long. Ten minutes later, Simon Olsson decided the match for Elfsborg following a pass from Alexander Jensen.
Djurgarden tried to push for another equaliser but could not find it. The team finished the match with nine shots to Elfsborg's fifteen. This defeat means Djurgarden remain in third place in the Allsvenskan with 41 points. The team has won four of its last five matches but now loses ground on the leaders.
The next fixture is a key Stockholm derby away to Hammarby on October 11th. The side needs to recover quickly for the tough challenge against a direct table rival. Jani Honkavaara will have a week to analyse the defensive lapses from this match.
