Djurgården is mourning the passing of Hans 'Hasse' Tvilling, one of the club's greatest ever sporting figures. He died at the age of 98, leaving behind a unique sporting legacy.

"We mourn the passing of Hans Tvilling, but at the same time remember him with warmth, pride and gratitude for his unique contributions to Djurgården," the club said. Tvilling was a dual-sport athlete who made history for the club in the 1950s.

His foremost achievement came in 1955. That year he won the Swedish football championship with Djurgården and, within the same calendar year, also won the Swedish ice hockey championship. That feat remains unique. He played 152 Allsvenskan matches for Djurgården, scoring 42 goals. In total, he made around 300 league appearances for the club across all divisions.

On the ice, he was one of the very best. Together with his twin brother Stig, who passed away in 1989, he was a key player as Djurgården established itself as Sweden's leading ice hockey team. Hasse Tvilling won four Swedish ice hockey championships with the club, in 1950, 1954, 1955 and 1958. The brothers became world champions in 1953 and won Olympic bronze in 1952.

Hasse and Stig Tvilling are two of only five men to have represented Sweden at senior international level in both football and ice hockey. Hasse earned four caps for the Swedish football team between 1951 and 1953.

The club will honour his memory in connection with the next home match. "We remember Hasse as a Djurgårdare to his soul who made invaluable contributions to the association," the club added. A collective applause will be held before kick-off against IF Elfsborg on Sunday.
