Djurgården have completed the signing of forward Oliver Wahlström. The 26-year-old American put pen to paper and was officially presented by the club on Tuesday evening.
Wahlström joins from the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL and will link up with the Djurgården squad later this week. The transfer represents a substantial investment for a club seeking to bolster one of its top lines and its power play unit.
"I'm super excited to come over and start as soon as I can," said Oliver Wahlström.
He is a right-handed forward with experience from five seasons with the New York Islanders and one with the Boston Bruins in the NHL. In total, he has recorded 73 points across 236 professional games. Wahlström has Swedish heritage through his father Joakim and was previously on loan to AIK during the 2020/2021 season, where he played ten games in HockeyAllsvenskan.
The reinforcement arrives during a strong run of form in the Allsvenskan. Djurgården sit second in the table with 41 points from 21 games and are on a five-match winning streak. The team has scored 46 goals this season, with Kristian Stromland Lien leading the way with 15.
Wahlström will reunite with a familiar face in new defender Lucas Carlsson, who also joins from the San Jose Barracuda. Ahead of the next fixture away to IF Brommapojkarna on October 18th, the manager now has an additional offensive option at his disposal.
Fans can follow the team's progress in the standings and view the full fixtures list for the decisive autumn matches. Wahlström's arrival provides a key addition in the pursuit of league leaders Sirius, whom Djurgården trail by seven points.
