Djurgården in crisis
Djurgården has just lost two heavy matches: 6-0 against Västerås SK, just a week after a 6-0 win against the same opponent, and 1-3 in the twin derby at home against AIK. The team now faces a pressured match against Malmö FF in Skåne.
Guidetti’s critical view
John Guidetti, who had not been fully convinced by coach Jani Honkavaara, said on TV4 before the match: "I was very critical from the very early on. I was one of the first to say that I didn’t think he would stay. Many shook their heads, thought it was strange." He also points out that Stefan Billborn, who had been promised to stay for the season, was sacked at the end of July.
The future of the coaching position
Guidetti continues: "Loss today and another loss soon, so we will probably see a new coach at Djurgården." There are also discussions with the club’s new football director Maximilian Hahn, who expressed high confidence in Honkavaara at the end of last week, despite Honkavaara having a contract that runs until the 2027 season.
